This Privacy Policy explains how HWIH (Have What I'm Having) ("HWIH," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and retains information when you use our mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
Important context: HWIH is a technology platform that helps users connect and coordinate meal-sharing activities with other users. Information about meals (including photos, descriptions, ingredients, and allergens) is generally user-generated. We do not verify the accuracy of user content and we do not inspect or handle food.
By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
SMS Messaging Consent
By providing your phone number and checking the SMS consent box (or otherwise opting in), you agree to receive text messages from HWIH about group invitations, meal activity, updates, and account/security notifications. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
We collect information you provide directly to us, such as:
- Account information (name, email address, and password or authentication token)
- Phone number (if you opt in to SMS notifications)
- Profile information (profile picture, display name, and optional bio)
- Content you post or send through the Service (meal posts, photos, descriptions, comments, messages, and other user content)
- Optional information you choose to share (for example, dietary preferences or allergy information)
- Communications with us (support requests, feedback, bug reports)
Safety note: Please do not share sensitive personal information in meal posts or messages (e.g., medical records, government ID numbers, financial account information). Any information you share with other users may be copied or re-shared by them.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Service, we automatically collect certain information, including:
- Device information (device model, operating system, language, and app version)
- Identifiers (IP address, mobile advertising ID where permitted, device identifiers)
- Usage information (pages/screens viewed, features used, taps/clicks, time spent)
- Log data and diagnostic data (crash reports, performance data, error logs)
Location information
If you enable location services, we may collect precise or approximate location information to help you discover or coordinate with groups and meal-sharing activity. You can control location permissions in your device settings.
Notifications
If you enable push notifications, we may collect a push notification token from Apple or Google to send you notifications. You can turn off push notifications in your device settings.
Information from third parties
We may receive information from third parties in limited circumstances, such as:
- Authentication providers (e.g., Apple or Google sign-in, if enabled)
- Service providers that help us measure performance and usage (analytics)
- SMS delivery providers (delivery status and messaging metadata)
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you
- Enable core features such as groups, posts, messaging, and notifications
- Send you transactional communications (e.g., invitations, account/security notices)
- Send SMS messages if you opted in (and honor opt-out requests)

User-generated meal information: We may display user-submitted meal information to other users based on your settings and group memberships. We do not use meal-related posts to provide medical, dietary, or food safety advice.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following ways:
With other users (social + group features)
The Service is designed to enable user-to-user interactions. Depending on your settings and activity, certain information may be visible to other users, including:
- Your profile information (name/display name and profile photo)
- The groups you participate in (as visible to members of those groups)
- Meal posts, photos, and related comments within the groups you post to
- Messages and communications you send within the Service
Reminder: We cannot control what other users do with information you choose to share. Please share thoughtfully.
With service providers
We may share information with trusted vendors that help us run the Service, such as:
- Cloud hosting and storage providers (for data and images)
- SMS service providers (to deliver text messages you opted in to receive)
- Email and notification providers (for service communications)
- Analytics and diagnostics providers (to improve app performance)
Service providers are authorized to use personal information only as necessary to provide services to us.
For legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or government request
- Enforce our Terms of Service and investigate potential violations

SMS Messaging
Consent and opt-in
If you opt in, we may send you SMS messages related to the Service (for example, group invitations, meal activity, account/security notifications). SMS consent is optional. You can still use the Service without SMS, but you may not receive text-based notifications.
Opt-out
You can stop receiving SMS messages at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any SMS message from HWIH
- Adjusting your notification preferences in the app settings (if available)
- Contacting us using the information in the “Contact Us” section
For help, reply HELP to any message.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and for legitimate business purposes such as security, compliance, dispute resolution, and enforcing our agreements. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and how it is used.
If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify personal information from our active systems within a reasonable period, subject to legal and operational requirements. Some information may remain in backups for a limited time. Content you shared in groups may remain visible to other users if they have retained it, or if it is necessary to maintain the integrity of group conversations.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights, including:
- Accessing and updating your account/profile information
- Deleting your account and associated personal information
- Opting out of SMS messages (by replying STOP) and controlling notification settings
- Controlling location permissions in your device settings
- Requesting information about how we use and share your data
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to request access, deletion, or correction of certain personal information, and the right to opt out of certain sharing if applicable.

Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
In addition, meal exchange activities (offering, claiming, or coordinating pickup of food) are intended for adults and, as described in our Terms of Service, require users to be at least 18.
If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Third-Party Services
The Service may integrate with or link to third-party services (for example, Apple, Google, your mobile carrier, or analytics providers). Your use of those third-party services is subject to their terms and privacy policies. We do not control the privacy practices of third parties.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy and update the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
